6. Things to do in Wilderness – Hiking

Wilderness is breathtakingly beautiful. The landscapes are a feast for the eyes with the ocean on one side and lush forests and lagoons on the other. The best way to soak in the beauty is hiking.

Wilderness is a short 15-minute drive from George so making a day trip to venture out on one of the hiking trails is hassle-free. There are five hiking trails to choose from within the Wilderness National Park, some just more gruelling than others.

The Brown Hooded Kingfisher trail is 4.1km and probably the easiest of the hikes. Walking through the green forest you will have great viewings of birds and flora. The Pied Kingfisher trail is the longest and probably the hardest. So, if you are looking for a full day out this is your best option. You’ll also walk along the sandy beach for a portion of this hike.

Sedgefield is home to a few beautiful beaches, but Myoli has to be the best one. With the soft sandy shores and clear waters, you can’t go wrong with a relaxing day on this beach.

Known as a top wave-riding beach, you will find lots of surfers and kite surfers in the water and if you are brave enough, you can join in too. Keep your eyes peeled as dolphins and whales are often spotted further out in the ocean, just adding the magic of your day by the sea.

There is also a beach bar and restaurant in which you will be able to grab a meal before your 35-minute drive back to George.

8. What to do in Knysna – Boat Tour on the Knysna Lagoon

Get on the water and enjoy a fun boat tour of the Knysna lagoon. You get up close to the exquisite Knysna heads, one of Knysna’s most famous landmarks.

As your boat charters the waters you will learn about the biodiversity in Knysna while you sail past the Featherbed Reserve. This reserve is situated across the lagoon and only accessible by boat.

Most boat tours leave at various times throughout the day. A great time to go is in the late afternoon so that you can watch the sunset turning the rock faces golden while enjoying a drink.
