Greyhound Bus Tickets

Most long distance routes give passengers the option of travelling in Business or Luxury class.
Passengers travelling from Durban to Cape Town via Bloemfontein will pay for R650 for luxury class or R800 for business class. Travelling from Durban to Cape Town via Port Elizabeth costs R770 for luxury while business is R920.

Travelling in luxury class from Cape Town to Johannesburg costs R650 with ‘business’ class at R800 and a choice of travelling via Bloemfontein or Kimberley.

A booking from Johannesburg to Nelspruit costing R335 can be taken from three different departure points at three different timeson the Pretoria/Johannesburg/Maputo, via Nelspruit route.

Methods of Payment/Discounts:

Travellers have numerous ways to book their Greyhound bus ticket/s!

  • Credit Cards: All Greyhound outlets, via the Greyhound website, travel agencies, Computicket, Shoprite and cell phone bookings;
  • Debit Cards: All outlets, via the Greyhound website, travel agencies, Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers;
  • Cash: All outlets, Shoprite, travel agencies and Computicket;
  • Loyalty Cards: All outlets and Computicket agents;
  • ‘Edcon’ Cards: Only at Greyhound outlets and via the Greyhound website.

Electronic fund transfers are not acceptable but arrangements for payment can be made by contacting the Reservation office at +27 0 839 159000.

Children under the age of two years travel for free when not occupying a seat, while those aged between two and 11 years receive a discount of 15% off an adult fare but those older than 12 years pay an adult fare. Should you be travelling with one or more children under the age of two, all children, except for one child will pay child fares.No child may travel unaccompanied unless prior arrangements have been made with Greyhound management.

In effect since 1st June 2015 are the new child travel regulations. Youngsters under the age of 18 crossing a border are required to produce an abridged birth certificate. See further information on the Greyhound bus website.


Unitrans/Steinhoff staff members, when booking at a Greyhound terminal in person and paying cash, receive a 10% discount with proof of their ID and a copy of their staff card or pay slip being applicable and valid only for the member, their spouse and children.

Senior Citizens 60 years and older receive a 15% discount when travelling from Monday to Wednesday, on Saturdays and not during peak periods. To obtain this discount, bookings can be done at a Greyhound terminal, online or via the bus call centre. An ID book or valid pensioner’s card must be produced when booking and boarding the coach.


You can save 5% on your ticket when using your Absa Mega U card by purchasing your ticket from a Greyhound bus outlet.

Group Bookings for 10 or more passengers, travelling on the same route will also receive a 5% saving on their Greyhound ticket.

When utilising your South African credit card and travelling outside holiday periods, book via the Greyhound website and gain a 5% discount on your fare.

Students receive a 5% discount when making a pre or stand-by booking and need to produce their valid student card when booking and boarding.

SANDF and SAPS members are entitled to a 10% savings on pre and stand-by bookings, providing their valid Force Cards and ID books when booking and boarding.

Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits followers save 10% when organising their trips in advance. These bookings can be made at any countryside Greyhound bus office with their valid membership card which they must also produce when boarding.

McDonalds staff members are entitled to a 10% saving but must present their valid McDonalds employee card and number when booking and boarding.

Discovery Vitality programme members gain a 20% discount when booking at a Greyhound bus outlet and must produce their valid membership card for booking and boarding the coach, noting the discount is not transferable.

Regular Passengers/Travel Holidays

Travellers utilising Greyhound coaches on a regular basis benefit enormously by joining the Greyhound Loyalty Programme/Get-a-round Club that operates with a point system where points are allocated according to the cost of the Greyhound ticket purchased, affording travellers free tickets with the accumulation of their points.
