South Africa is a must to those adventure lovers showing off a magnificent landscape and an incredible diversity in nature. Once you have visited this beautiful country, you will always long to return and relive this extraordinary experience. Deciding which places to visit is certainly not easy, especially considering the distances to travel, so to ensure that you don’t get lost in the wild nature of South Africa, be sure to put these popular South African destinations in your must do list.

Cape Town

Table Mountain – this offers a beautiful view of the Mother City. You can access Table Mountain either by hiking up or by using the cable car. Whichever method you choose you can be rest assured that the view will take your breath away.

The Cape Peninsula – If  adventure is for you and you are the type of person that enjoys hiking then this is a must. You will find the Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope within Table Mountain National Park. The unspoiled nature will give you the experience of  a lifetime. If you are able to visit this area in spring or early summer, you might see majestic Southern Right Whales. No matter what time of year you visit, make sure you get to see the colony of 3,200 African penguins at Boulders Beach.

Robben Island – recently classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Robben Island is famous for many things, but mostly for the prison where South Africa`s political prisoners were held during the Apartheid era. At various points in history, the island was also a leper colony, a mental hospital and a defense training base.

The actual prison itself is where you can walk the maximum security wing where anti-apartheid activists like Nelson Mandela were imprisoned. You can see what the life of the prisoners was like and where they worked. You will most likely find that your guide was an actual prisoner himself so the accounts you hear about are first hand.

The cradle of humankind – a mere 50km away from the bustle of Johannesburg, there is a complex of limestone caves known as the Cradle of Humankind. It is in these caves that scientists discovered fossils dating back to the birth of humankind. The most famous among the fossils are the skull “Mr. Ples” (which is a 2.1 million-year-old skull) and the skeleton “Little Foot” (which is 3 million-years-old). Our earliest known ancestors evolved from The Cradle of Humankind.

Phalaborwa

The Kruger National Park – probably one of the mos famous animal parks in the world, The Kruger National Park,  lies in the Limpopo Province and is the largest reserve in South Africa. You will be mesmerised by the abundance of wildlife and the presence of the big five. With such diversity in flora and fauna, no one could remain unimpressed. You can see 336 types of trees, 49 kinds of fish, 34 types of amphibians, 114 different reptiles, 507 species of birds and 147 kinds of mammals including Lion, Elephant and Rhino. The wild diversity is mixed with some history at archaeological sites, like Masorini and Thulamela.
